About Looney Bean

Waking up one morning in the (then) quiet mountain town of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Bonnie and Brent Kennedy literally had an awakening. After years of settling for a mediocre existence, they’d had enough. Courageous enough to dream, crazy enough to leave their “secure jobs” and smart enough not to know better, Looney Bean was born.

Getting Started

So they gathered their coins, borrowed money from friends and family, bought a charming coffeehouse in the heart of Mammoth Lakes and created the first Looney Bean Coffee Roasting Co. that we know and love today. Wet behind the ears, but eager to succeed, they bought only the finest Estate Coffees. With their trusty 25lb. “San Franciscan” small batch roaster at their side, they’ve done their fair share of experimentation. It’s no secret that those early batches left plenty of room for improvement, but today, over a decade later, they’ve uncovered many of the secrets to the art of roasting coffee that produces exquisite flavor and aroma.

For over 16 years, the Mammoth Lakes, CA Looney Bean has become the favorite gathering spot for locals, tourists and many snow sport celebrities alike. They love it’s down-to-earth feel, delectable baked goods made onsite daily and of course, amazing Estate coffees. Now with four locations (and a fifth in the works in Bend, OR) in outdoor recreation destinations, you can start more adventures with a cup of Looney Bean Coffee. As you can see, the new Online Store, Looney Bean coffee is only a click away. In a few days time, you could be experiencing that same amazing cup of coffee you first experienced on the hill, in the gorge, or on the river, every morning to start your day. And for a brief moment, you can recharge your battery and relive that unforgettable holiday when you first experienced Looney Bean coffee.

All in the Family

Brent Kennedy and his four brothers define the term “family business.” In some form or another, every brother has his hand in the daily operation of a Coffee Roasting Company. Almost daily, they turn to each other for advice or input in their own expertise. Maury handles the online operations, if you have any problems with this site go to him:). Randy and Tom own and operate coffeehouses. Randy has the Looney Bean in Montrose, Colorado and Tom has Kennedy Coffee in Bentonville, Arkansas. ( www.kennedycoffee.com). Bill owns Coffee PER, Inc. (www.coffeeper.com) which manufactures "The San Fransican" small batch coffee roasters. And Brent, well Brent is kind of a conductor...putting all the parts together. You can see a pattern here. Nothing is more important than family, and to the Kennedys’ businesses, nothing is more important than a great cup of coffee.
